Statement of educational and professional goals

In recent years, computers become part of our life; every aspect of our daily life is related to computers. Internet-base is becoming a popular trade and I believe that this situation will keep further in the future. That’s why I want to study a Master of Science in Computer Science program with a special interest in programming and internet platform—to prepare for my career in computer industry, especially in network and network security.

At college, I major in Information Management which applies computer programs to management. Learning variety programming languages from school, namely C language, VB, and Java helps me to cultivate logical thinking. Once standing in front of an elevator and a sensor tap, I even try to imagine their program in my mind. When taking the “Designing of www system”, I have real interest in designing a website. The teacher taught us how to use ASP and ASP.NET to create websites. In Graduate Project, my team uses Asp.Net to create an online system successfully which helps people manage their projects’ procedure, file uploading and contacts. I learn client-side AJAX technologies and server-side construction and performance-tuning techniques through Graduate Project, and I want to learn further web techniques in graduate school for raising my professional ability.

When I took the courses which were named “Network attack and defense technology and application” and “Network Security”, I had real interest in network security. In first course, the teachers practiced many kinds of way of breaking encryption to us. My final project in first course is to practice Aircrack, WEP keys cracking program; the second one discussed different policies of information security. My classmates and I did research about mechanisms of security of credit card. Going through these projects, I realize that although there are implemented some security mechanisms, there are many functions can be used to hack. This is a challenging field and it’s worthy to do research. Thus, I believe that a good computer science’s person has to not only design a well system but also provide a safe environment.

Out of school, I was a volunteer in children’s hospital for three years which task is to accompany sick children. I usually played computer games with them which can help children to cultivate the physical coordination, eyes and hands. I found out that planning a great computer game is beneficial for them and this is maybe what I can do for them in the future. I am willing to donate myself and all my knowledge learns from schools to let people’s life become more convenient. In my opinion, we should contribute our abilities to society when we are able to work.

The programming languages I have learned and experiences of creating websites have prepared me well for graduate studies in computer science. I have chosen Wright State University because of your excellent research and instruction in computer science. Your school is reputed for its equipment, facilities and diverse student population. Graduate education experiences at university will certainly bolster my credentials for advancement in both industry and academics.
